As a farmer dissatisfied with low saleyard returns on his livestock Stephen decided to undertake the Cert 4 Meat Processing (Meat Safety) course through OTEN in 2013, which enabled him to receive accreditation by the NSW Food Authority as a meat safety inspector and construct an on-farm abattoir. It is the first private new abattoir licence issued in NSW for many years. He now has a whole new business processing his own animals, as well as undertaking processing for other growers, employing 2 slaughtermen who are about to commence meat industry traineeships. He now also offers consultancy to other livestock growers seeking to develop their own regional processing centres. How has life changed through OTEN?
