When I first signed up for the course I was the administration support to the Plant account, he suggested that it would be to my advantage to study accounting I was 55 years old at the time. In January 2010, while I was still studying they promoted me to Plant Account on the proviso that I had to relocate from Tasmania to the Brisbane Area to help standardise and unify all the accounting functions for our cement manufacturing plants. Relocating was difficult and I found it hard to find Justice’s of the Peace etc in my area to supervise my exams etc , also working long hours say my studies get behind and I had to apply for an extension, as I was determined to finish. I spent two very busy years in Brisbane before I was transferred back to Tasmania in Jan 2012, alas I had to pay for another year of studies and finally at the age of 60 I completed my Diploma of Accounting. I have now been promoted once again and I am now the Finance Manager of Cornwall Coal with two direct reports from Payroll and Administration. A success story I am very proud of.
