This qualification reflects the role of early childhood educators who are responsible for designing and implementing curriculum in early childhood education and care services. In doing so they work to implement an approved learning framework within the requirements of the Education and Care Services National Regulations and the National Quality Standard.
They may have responsibility for supervision of volunteers or other staff.

ENROLLING IN FIRST AID UNITS OF COMPETENCY
If you are seeking to enrol in a First Aid unit of competency you are advised that to complete the unit you must be able to perform basic life support skills, for example control bleeding and perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). If you have a disability that would prevent you from performing required basic life support skills you are advised that you will not be able to achieve the unit of competency.

If during or after your enrolment, the course in which you are enrolled is updated in line with national industry standards, the Institute reserves the right to transition you into an alternate course. If this becomes necessary, the Institute will advise you of the change and the arrangements which will be available for you to complete your alternate course.

Are there any additional entry requirements?

A number of courses may require prospective students to provide additional information such as documentation, an expression of interest, evidence that you are already employed as an apprentice, or preferred prior study (or equivalent).

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a full time online delivery of this course over 2 years.
- You will need to complete approximately 20 hours of online study per week.
- You will need to attend one 8 hour face to face session for First Aid or provide evidence of a recent completion of this requirement.
- You should also expect to do approximately 6 hours of additional study each week including, private study, assignment preparation, work experience and research.
- You will need to complete a total of 240 hours of assessable work placement in a suitable Early Child Education and Care service.

WORK PLACEMENT
Work Placement is an important part of your course giving you an opportunity to:
- Learn in a workplace relevant to your future career
- Talk, listen and learn from experienced workers who will help you put your theoretical learning into practice
- Practise skills in a real life situations
- Have exposure to both normal operating procedures and unplanned contingencies

You will need to complete 240 hours of professional work placement in two stages. In stage 1 you will complete two 60 hour placements and in stage 2, another placement of 120 hours.

It is your responsibility to organise your workplace placement at an education and care service in your local area. We will provide assistance through the process, ensuring an appropriate and safe environment and that the director is aware of the assessment obligations. You will be assessed for your readiness for placement prior to each session.

Credit (or recognition) for modules/units may be granted based on previous learning, studies, work and/or life experiences. Please discuss this with the teaching section when you enrol.

WORK PLACEMENTS

Many TAFE courses have a compulsory work placement component to assist you to apply your learning in a practical environment and you may be required to comply with some (or all) of the following.

1. NSW HEALTH

Before you commence any clinical placements in NSW Health facilities, you will be required to
* Meet NSW Health’s - Criminal Record Check requirements;
* Sign the NSW Health Code of Conduct form and any other forms, as required by NSW Health;
* Undertake Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Infectious Diseases and provide your Health Care Worker/Student Vaccination Record Card.

2. AGED CARE WORK - Before you undertake any clinical placements in Aged Care Facilities you will be required to undertake a Federal Criminal Record Check. Visit:

3. COMMUNITY AND CHILDREN'S SERVICES

Anyone in child-related work (including student placements and volunteers) MUST have a current Working with Children Check (students/volunteers free) in line with the Office of Children's Guardian phase-in schedule and processes. Visit:

4. STUDENT READINESS FOR WORK PLACEMENT

Generally work placements will only occur after there has been a reasonable amount of student/teacher contact and when the teacher is satisfied that you are ready to benefit from workplace learning and perform workplace duties. Your teacher can provide further information.

Please note this course has a practical component which you will need to complete in a Licensed Early Childhood Education and Care setting. Stage 1 will be two separate lots of 60hrs work placement and Stage 2 will be one 120hr placement.

The indicative cost of this course is $4,970.

This training is subsidised by the NSW government under Smart and Skilled. The student fee you will need to pay, will be determined according to your personal circumstances and eligibility for a subsidised place, you may also be eligible for a concession fee, fee exemption or fee free scholarship. Payment by instalments is available.
You may continue with an enrolment into this course if you are not eligible for subsidised training, however the full training fee will be applicable. There are conditions to enrolment if you are a Temporary Visa Holder. To discuss your visa status and eligibility to enrol please phone 131 241.

RESOURCES
You will need to provide for yourself:
- Basic hygiene materials and props to support online feedback on handwashing, sterilising, medication administration and nappy changing. A list of required materials will be provided to you during enrolment. You may choose to purchase or obtain a kit for your own use. These kits are available to borrow from a TAFE NSW Library or Connected Learning Centre. If you are unable to get to TAFE NSW and are not able to access the required equipment, you should contact your teacher who can post a kit to you.
- Assess to a computer with reliable internet access
- A video recording device

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Your actual fee will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process.

This course is approved for a Commonwealth VET Student Loan. If you meet the eligibility requirements, you are able to apply to the Commonwealth for a loan to cover all or part of your course fee. We will ask you whether you would like to apply for a VET Student Loan when you enrol and advise you of the process.
