A set of skills to equip individuals for work in food handling to ensure food safety.

Pathways Information
Achievement of this unit provides credit towards qualifications in tourism, travel, hospitality, events, holiday parks and resorts in the SIT Tourism, Travel and Hospitality Training Package.

Licensing/Regulatory Information
Certification requirements apply at a state and territory level to individuals involved in food handling. Certification in some States relies on the achievement of SITXFSA001 Use hygienic practices for food safety.

Food safety legislative and knowledge requirements may differ across borders. Those developing training to support the unit must consult the relevant state or territory food safety authority to determine any accreditation arrangements for courses, trainers and assessors.

**STUDY COMMITMENT**

This is an online course. You will need to complete approximately 3 hours of online study, each week, for your enrolment duration.
You can increase the hours of online study per week to complete the course sooner.

You can also expect to complete approximately half an hour of additional study each week outside of class hours, including independent study, research, practice and assignments.

Are there any additional entry requirements?

A number of courses may require prospective students to provide additional information such as documentation, an expression of interest, evidence that you are already employed as an apprentice, or preferred prior study (or equivalent).

To successfully complete this course, you will need:
- access to a computer, printer, software programs and Internet to access the TAFE Digital OLS (Online Learning Support platform).

Credit (or recognition) for modules/units may be granted based on previous learning, studies, work and/or life experiences. Please discuss this with the teaching section when you enrol.

This skill set is for food handling personnel working in tourism, hospitality and catering organisations with permanent or temporary kitchen premises, and smaller food preparation or bar areas.

You don't need to study what you already know! The skills, knowledge and experience you have gained from your previous learning, work experience and life in general may be taken into account.

To apply for recognition in one or more units you must clearly show that you have the equivalent and relevant skills, knowledge and experience of the unit or group of units.

For Credit transfer where you have completed previous studies either with TAFE NSW or with another tertiary provider complete the Enrolment Adjustment - Credit - Previous Studies form, and include any required evidence.

For Recognition of Prior Learning, attach your evidence to a completed Enrolment Adjustment – Credit – Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) form and submit for assessment.
