**TRAINING PACKAGE REQUIREMENTS**

There are no Training Package entry requirements for this qualification.

**TAFE NSW REQUIREMENTS**

To be eligible to enrol in this course, you must:

- Have Level 3 Language Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) proficiency - Skills Teams will carry out an assessment to identify whether you need support in this area
- Have a moderate level of fitness and flexibility that enables you to perform CPR on the floor
- Hold a current Working with Children Check and be able to provide a copy of your immunisation record - both records will be checked before orientation
- Allocate time for self-study and to complete your assessments and course work
- Participate in 50 hours of practical skills practice, in a simulated dental clinic environment

**WORK PLACEMENT**

Work placement provides you with opportunities to practice responding to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement enhances your learning experience and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

This course has a mandatory 250 hours of work placement. You will need to arrange a suitable dental practice to complete this requirement with.

Work placement begins once you have completed 50 hours practicing your skills in a simulated work environment.

As children and young people may be patients, a valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) is mandatory to begin your work placement.

Credit (or recognition) for modules/units may be granted based on previous learning, studies, work and/or life experiences. Please discuss this with the teaching section when you enrol.

**NSW Health**

If your work placement is with NSW Health, you need to be aware of their specific work placement requirements.

Before you begin any clinical placements in NSW Health facilities, you will be required to:

- Complete a Criminal Record Check
- Sign the NSW Health Code of Conduct form and any other forms as required by NSW Health
- Undertake Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Infectious Diseases
- Provide your Health Care Worker/Student Vaccination Record Card

**BE PREPARED**

To be prepared for this course, it is recommended that you have:

To complete this course you must be able to complete 250 hours of work experience as a dental assistant in a Dental Surgery.

You don't need to study what you already know! The skills, knowledge and experience you have gained from your previous learning, work experience and life in general may be taken into account.

To apply for recognition in one or more units you must clearly show that you have the equivalent and relevant skills, knowledge and experience of the unit or group of units.

For Credit transfer where you have completed previous studies either with TAFE NSW or with another tertiary provider complete the Enrolment Adjustment - Credit - Previous Studies form, and include any required evidence.

For Recognition of Prior Learning, attach your evidence to a completed Enrolment Adjustment – Credit – Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) form and submit for assessment.

Smart and Skilled Student Fees

The cost of this course will vary based on your eligibility for a Smart and Skilled Student Fee. Eligibility criteria can be found on the Smart and Skilled website or you can call us on 131 601 for further information and advice.

Trainees: From 2016 if you are starting a traineeship that is on the NSW Skills List, your Smart and Skilled fee for the whole qualification will not be more than $1,000.

This training is subsidised by the NSW government under Smart and Skilled. The student fee you will need to pay, will be determined according to your personal circumstances and eligibility for a subsidised place, you may also be eligible for a concession fee, fee exemption or fee free scholarship. Payment by instalments is available.

You may continue with an enrolment into this course if you are not eligible for subsidised training, however the full training fee will be applicable. There are conditions to enrolment if you are a Temporary Visa Holder. To discuss your visa status and eligibility to enrol please phone 131 241.
