This qualification reflects the role of individuals who have a defined and limited range of hospitality operational skills and basic industry knowledge. They are involved in mainly routine and repetitive tasks and work under direct supervision.

This qualification provides a pathway to work in various hospitality settings, such as restaurants, hotels, motels, catering operations, clubs, pubs, cafs, and coffee shops.

Possible job titles include:
- bar attendant
- cafe attendant
- catering assistant
- food and beverage attendant
- front office assistant
- porter
- room attendant.

No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

Trainees Only
Before you can start a traineeship, you first need to find an employer in the industry you're interested in that will support you through your studies. You and your employer should contact an Apprenticeship Network Provider (ANP) and tell them you're interested in studying at TAFE NSW. The ANP will help you and your employer to complete a Training Contract. Once you have a Training Contract, we will help you, your employer and the ANP to complete a Training Plan Proposal. Once you have both these documents, the ANP will lodge them with Training Services NSW and we will contact you to complete your enrolment.

STUDY COMMITMENT
This is an Online course. You will need to complete approximately 9 hours of online study, each week, for your enrolment duration of 1 year.
You can increase the hours of online study per week to complete the course sooner.

You can also expect to complete approximately 11 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours.

If during or after your enrolment, the course in which you are enrolled is updated in line with national industry standards, the Institute reserves the right to transition you into an alternate course. If this becomes necessary, the Institute will advise you of the change and the arrangements which will be available for you to complete your alternate course.

There are no entry requirements for this qualification.

A number of courses may require prospective students to provide additional information such as documentation, an expression of interest, evidence that you are already employed as an apprentice, or preferred prior study (or equivalent).

Before you can start a traineeship, you first need to find an employer in the industry you're interested in that will support you through your studies. Work Placement:
To complete this Course, you will be required to show that you can provide quality hospitality service to customers by completing 12 service periods or shifts that involve setting up for service, participating in the service and closing the service period. The service periods must be worked in businesses such as restaurants, hotels, motels, clubs, pubs, cafes and coffee shops.

To successfully complete this course, you will need:
- Learners must have access to computer, printer, software programs and Internet to access the TAFE Digital OLS.(Online learning support platform)

Credit (or recognition) for modules/units may be granted based on previous learning, studies, work and/or life experiences. Please discuss this with the teaching section when you enrol.

You will be required to show that you can provide quality hospitality service to customers for a minimum of 36 complete service periods (shifts). A job that has involved the application of skills to work in organisation such as restaurants, hotels, motels, clubs, pubs, cafes and coffee shops.

You don't need to study what you already know! The skills, knowledge and experience you have gained from your previous learning, work experience and life in general may be taken into account.

To apply for recognition in one or more units you must clearly show that you have the equivalent and relevant skills, knowledge and experience of the unit or group of units.

For Credit transfer where you have completed previous studies either with TAFE NSW or with another tertiary provider complete the Enrolment Adjustment - Credit - Previous Studies form, and include any required evidence.

For Recognition of Prior Learning, attach your evidence to a completed Enrolment Adjustment – Credit – Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) form and submit for assessment.

Smart and Skilled Student Fees

The cost of this course will vary based on your eligibility for a Smart and Skilled Student Fee. Eligibility criteria can be found on the Smart and Skilled website or you can call us on 131 601 for further information and advice.

Trainees: From 2016 if you are starting a traineeship that is on the NSW Skills List, your Smart and Skilled fee for the whole qualification will not be more than $1,000.

This training is subsidised by the NSW government under Smart and Skilled. The student fee you will need to pay, will be determined according to your personal circumstances and eligibility for a subsidised place, you may also be eligible for a concession fee, fee exemption or fee free scholarship. Payment by instalments is available.

When enrolling under a Smart and Skilled entitlement and where you are eligible for 100% credit from previous studies, your student fee contribution will be zero. However, you will be required to pay an administration fee for the production of your testamur.
